Painting is a hobby but has become BIG part of his life!

If being asked any media he likes for his painting in 2019, he would tell you he has no clue what acrylics and oils are about since he has never touched them in the past 33 year until 2019 when he randomly signed up an acrylic painting class in Philly Art Center from February to April. Later, he started oil painting with Stefanie Lieberman in Woodmere Art Museum from April 2019 to March 2020.

Although his artistic journey just started not long ago, his ongoing commissions, shows and awards symbolize his success. His teacher comments he just keeps growing as a painter! He got many commissions for portraits especially pet since 2020. When asked what contribute to his success, he would tell you never constrain yourself with only one subject matter, try different things or media to play with to explore more. Just have fun and keep creating. Also, do not stop learning from others from workshops, demo, and class.

In 2021, he donated two paintings to the Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (PMG) where the founder Isaiah Zagar discovered them then commissioned him for more, which is his biggest commission so far. In 2022, his painting "'Wissahichon Trail" won the FIRST place from the juror Bonnie Mettler in the 9th Annual plein Air competition in Whitemarsh Art Center.

Artist Statement

Huchen's paintings range from landscape to cityscape. He expresses his art in various media such as oils, acrylic and watercolor. He tends to let media dictate where it goes instead of forcing it to a certain way, in that it shows the strength of the medium.
